For all those interested in safety, we’ve compiled a list of our top safety conferences of 2023. These conferences will primarily benefit those in the industrial safety space — nonetheless, they will have great speakers and new technology that could be interesting to any and all safety experts. Some of the event details are still being worked out by organizers and will be updated here as new information becomes available.

1. Global Excavation Safety Conference
February 14-16 | Location: Tampa, FL
Global Excavation Safety Conference was founded in 2003 to address the need for public awareness expertise and solutions for the underground utility industry. Infrastructure Resources LLC (IR) has been the owner and producer of this event since 2006. The event has helped transform the damage prevention industry by providing information and educational opportunities to help stakeholders employ best practices that lower the risk of damage while protecting workplaces, communities, the environment and people’s lives.
2. Operations & Maintenance and Safety Conference
March 1 – 3 | Orlando, FL
The ACP Operations & Maintenance and Safety Conference is where the industry connects to recognize the unique challenges and identify solutions in health and safety, operations and maintenance, workforce training and development, and quality assurance.

3. NSC Spring
May 17-19 | Indianapolis, IN
This is the Spring edition of the event hosted by the NSC which offers professional development seminars and a Conference & Expo. It will be held in Indianapolis.
4. AIHce EXP
May 22-24 | Phoenix AZ
The AIHce EXP is hosted by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and is billed as “the premier conference for occupational and environmental health and safety scientists.”
The AIHA was founded in 1939 and its annual conference focuses on sharing training, research needs and trends with health and safety professionals. This is one of the conferences that has rapidly risen on SlateSafety’s ‘must attend’ list in recent years.
With a great thumb on innovation, the opening keynote is Dr. Poppy Crum who will highlight that technology will not replace human interactions and experiences, but rather make them better than we could ever imagine.
5. ASSP Annual Safety Conference
June 5-7 | San Antonio, TX
This event is hosted by the American Society of Safety Professionals. The ASSP is a global association for occupational safety and health professionals and has been around for more than 100 years. Their mission is to support safety professionals’ efforts to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
The conference offers high-quality safety education options and opportunities to network with thousands of other attendees of diverse roles from around the world. It’s a great way to discover solutions to the challenges facing occupational health and safety professionals.
6. WasteExpo
May 1 – 4 | New Orleans, LA
Billed as the waste & recycling industry’s most valuable event, WasteExpo has been serving up state-of-the-art solid waste and recycling for over 50 years. This conference makes an emphasis on technology and innovation to tackle problems and find solutions including deep dives into recycling/landfill, fleet management/collection, organics, safety and food recovery.
WasteExpo has a typical attendee and vendor schedule. They also have different leadership seminars. For 2023 they’ll have ‘Spotlight Sessions’ and the big one they’re showing off is CEO Interview: One-on-one Chat with Jim Fish, President & CEO, Waste Management.
7. VPPPA Safety+ Symposium
September 18-20 | Orlando, FL
Hosted by the Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association, the Safety+ Symposium has been held for over 30 years. Its purpose is to help voluntary protection program worksites “achieve and maintain safety and health excellence.” It also offers participants the opportunity to network with others to exchange ideas and perspectives to help them grow professionally.
Ten VPPPA regions are “an established presence in all ten Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regions.” Find out more about the regions here.
8. Safety Council (NSC) Safety Congress & Expo
October 20-26 | New Orleans, LA
This is the world’s largest annual conference for safety, health and environmental professionals.
For more than 100 years the NSC has been the top nonprofit safety advocate in America. One of its main focuses is making a difference in the workplace by providing resources to organizations to mitigate risk. Learn more about NSC here.
9. Safety Leadership Conference
September 18-20 | Location: Orlando, FL
2023 will be the 12th year of this conference so it does make it somewhat of a newcomer. However, the show is tailored to share best practices with companies working to achieve world-class safety. As of this writing, the 2023 schedule isn’t completely ready but guaranteed to be a good one.
In 2022, they had a strong group of keynote speakers including Majo Thurman who presented on Presentations of America’s Safest Companies Awards and Keynote: EHS Leadership Emerging from the Pandemic – Stronger Than Ever.
10. Utility Safety Conference
May 9-11 | Location: Schaumburg, IL
Although the exact details for the 2023 conference are not yet available, viewing the 2022 schedule will give you a great idea of what to expect in 2023.
The 2022 iP Utility Safety Conference and Expo is happening now (November 8-10) in Glendale Arizona and planning for 2023 is in the works. This event brings together leading safety and operations professionals nationwide. For three days, experience educational opportunities and professional networking. This event is great for utility safety and operations professionals looking to achieve new levels of success within their organizations.
It’s also a great opportunity to earn your Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification on site. The CUSP is noted for being the only program that offers safety credentials to utilities, related contractors and communication providers.
